I LOVE cosmetics. I can’t get enough. I can’t USE enough. I certainly can’t buy enough on my public health salary.

And I’ve been bandying around with some ideas, toying with the possibility of becoming a makeup artist etc. Not necessarily abandoning the epidemiology but perhaps attributing some time to one, some time to another…sharing my analytical and creative side – getting some head-satisfaction (so to speak).

Well, I’ve not QUITE signed up for the full £450 class that I’m looking at doing (that’ll be some more £’s away yet), but I HAVE signed up for a MasterClass at Giorgio Armani for £45 (redeemable with product, naturally).

Next Wednesday. Fingers crossed I enjoy it, and it goes well, and…well…we’ll see.

*excited little hum to self*

Hiding...
Thursday 15 May 2008
...because of lots of things.

Things are settling again: the girls have recorded an album (!!!) which thrills me more than words can read!

I've joined a singing group. Sort of. I'm a little scared of them, as they do things like "the Native American Salute to the Spring" to warm up. I'm all for a little stretching out of the knots in your neck, but come on!!! Plus, they're all about a foot shorter and narrower than yours truly. Consequently, I feel like the older, wiser sister. Especially as I'm the one who seems to be most strict in how we rehearse etc. I'm just not sure they're sufficiently my type.

I'm in the middle of (another) move. As are (again) my parents. At this rate of "moving associated with generations", if I have a child, they'd best get a suitcase for their 1st birthday...cos it looks as though they'll be moving house every 2 months or so. Mad.

But the planned place is fab. Fingers crossed for me that everything pulls off hitchless, purlease (if anyone's still reading this).

I really do miss my mates. An AWFUL lot. I've made some inroads here, and I'm getting there - but at the same time, everyone's so busy, and few people like to (or can) catch up after work, with there still being enough time to get home at a decent hour for food etc. It's too expensive to continually eat out (a la Prague) and too far away to meet for any length of time (a la Wellington) which is a little isolating. Or maybe I have bad breath...?

I have a bike. HOORAH!!! Yes, for my birthday, I received a shiny, new bike. I would attach photos, since said bike was 'wrapped' in a giant purple bow, strung with fairy lights, and sat, pride of place, beneath a "Happy Birthday" banner and balloons. Fan-flipping-tastic. I've not had one for ages and ages (since Palmerston North, really) and it's LOVELY to ride again. Even without a helmet (soz 9).

This seems to be the period when a lot of people's Pappas are unwell, and I remember how bad it was when it was me. I also know that there's nothing to be done about it, and just as the two workmates I'm sandwiched between discuss their baby's latest tricks (vomiting on one side, and sitting upright on the other - ooooh!), and my mother was a generation representative in a "5-gen photo", I guess it stands to reason that in the evening I get calls from mates who are at hospitals, or getting drunk because it hurts too bad. Heartache like that sucks, and all I can say is that those around feel pretty powerless too. It's Poo. With a capital 'P'.

That's all for now. This tanned machine has to go out to play netball for the first time in, ooh, 20 years or so. She's scared witless...but reminding herself she enjoys this situation. She also wonders how many fingers will be taped up tomorrow...
